Kohl
"Kohl (kol), which means to
"brighten the eyes" in Arabic, is a mixture of soot and
other ingredients, used by Egyptian and other Asian women
and, to a lesser extent, men to darken the eyelids. Kohl has
been worn traditionally as far back as the Bronze Age. Kohl
was originally used as protection against eye ailments.
Darkening around the eyelids also provided relief from the
glare of the sun."

"Damask is a fabric of silk, wool, linen, cotton, or
synthetic fibers, with a pattern formed by weaving. The term
originally referred to ornamental silk fabrics from
Damascus.
Damask was first produced in China. India, Persia, and
Syria, then the Byzantine Empire followed".
